SPONSOR A SANCTUARY PIG

Occasionally SCGPR takes on special needs guinea pigs who remain in our care for the duration of their lives. We are dedicated to providing these guinea pigs with the best care and your support helps us to do so. Read up on some of our sanctuary piggies below and donate to their care.

Truffle & Crumpet

Truffle and Crumpet are two senior ladies living out their retirement years in their loving foster home with Aaron and Bella. These two special ladies were given up by their previous owners after a family member developed a life threatening illness to them. The family was devastated to give them up as they were over 6 years old and had been very loved.

Copper

Copper was rescued from a local shelter in 2022. He was there for almost 9 months! We pulled him after volunteers alerted us that he was losing function in his hind legs and he was depressed and shutting down. We treated him for scurvy and he recovered pretty quickly, we fell in love with his curious and silly personality.

He is living out his life with co- founder Annie. Due to the many months of poor care in the shelter, he's developed arthritis which will require careful monitoring, vet visits and medication for the rest of his life. Most of the time it doesn’t really affect him but he has occasional flare ups which make it painful for him to walk.

Acorn

Acorn was surrendered by his owners to a very overcrowded and understaffed city shelter. We were contacted by a shelter volunteer after they witnessed him, upon intake, being put in a filthy cage that hadn't been cleaned after the previous guinea pigs were removed.

For an underweight, senior, blind guinea pig, this was no place for him to be!

After a visit to our vet it was determined that his eye issues do not stem from an injury but seem to be degenerative in nature. He is living out his life as a treasured member of the family with co-founder Annie.

Checkers

Checkers was one of the worst cases we had ever seen. He was rescued from East Valley Shelter in horrible condition. He appeared to have been abused with multiple injuries, broken teeth and malnutrition.

Believe it or not, he was near death and actually available to the public for adoption.

He had to be syringe fed by his foster angel Melissa every 2 hours for weeks. We weren't sure he would make it but he proved to be a little fighter and he is still with us.

He has made a miraculous recovery but must be constantly weighed and monitored and has had a few setbacks throughout the year and a half that we have had him. He will live out his life in our loving foster home with Melissa.
